A technical guide to chemical composition, corrosion dynamics, global demand, and application pathways.
The demand for galvanized steel chicken wire (often referred to as hexagonal wire netting) has transitioned from local agricultural limits to large-scale global industrial, civil engineering, and architectural applications. Multi-national corporations, municipal planners, and agricultural enterprises require supply chains that are capable of delivering custom wire sizes, specific coating densities, and long-term durability guarantees.
In North America and the European Union, rigorous agricultural health regulations demand high-tensile, non-toxic mesh barriers to isolate livestock from local wildlife vectors. Simultaneously, rapid urbanization in Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region has triggered a surge in civil engineering applications where hexagonal mesh acts as rockfall barriers, structural plaster reinforcement, and soil stabilization grids. Selecting a manufacturer that possesses deep logistical advantages and standardizes metallurgical practices is critical to securing operational continuity.
The longevity of steel wire netting is directly proportional to its structural coating composition and weaving process. Two primary methodologies dominate the market: Galvanized Before Weaving (GBW) and Galvanized After Weaving (GAW).
Galvanized Before Weaving (GBW): The carbon steel wire is run through molten zinc baths before it is shaped into the hexagonal pattern. This ensures uniform wire diameter and high weaving speed. However, slight stress micro-fissures can occur at the twist points of the hexagonal structure during deformation.
Galvanized After Weaving (GAW): The raw carbon steel wire is woven first, and the entire mesh panel is then submerged in molten zinc. This process seals the twisted joints under a thick layer of protective zinc alloy, eliminating any exposed micro-fissures and maximizing corrosion resistance. GAW wire netting is recommended for marine environments, humid regions, and high-acid agricultural soils.

Hot-dip galvanizing involves immersing the woven mesh in a bath of molten zinc, creating a thick zinc-iron alloy layer (typically 50-200g/m²). This provides superior protection in harsh agricultural or industrial outdoor conditions. Electro-galvanizing uses an electrochemical process to apply a thinner, bright layer of zinc (usually 10-25g/m²), which is suitable for indoor use or dry regions.
GAW (Galvanized After Weaving) ensures that the twisted joints of the hexagonal mesh are completely sealed with a zinc protective layer. This prevents moisture from penetrating the twist joint gaps, which are the most common source of corrosion in agricultural and civil engineering applications.
We provide full customization options including wire gauge (BWG 14 to BWG 25), mesh aperture (1/2" to 2" hexagonal openings), roll width (0.3m to 2.5m), and roll length (up to 100 meters). We can also adjust the zinc coating mass based on specific project design demands.
We operate fully certified ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 facilities. Every production run is subjected to systematic testing: tensile tests via ASTM E8 protocols, zinc weight determination via ASTM A90 acid stripping tests, and long-term durability evaluations using ASTM B117 salt spray tests.
